International Wind Band Festival in Taiwan

Hello everyone! Recently, our band members flew to Taoyuan, Taiwan to attend the International Wind Band Festival from 9th August to 14th August 2019. We are very proud to announce that we have won the Gold Award in the competition! All of us were extremely thrilled to make our band, school and country proud with this achievement. Most of our members never went abroad for competitions before, which made this a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Besides participating in the Wind Band Festival, we had a fun time interacting with the band members of Hsing Nan Junior High School. Moreover, our members got to tour around Taipei and Taoyuan after the competition! Regardless of the scorching sun and hot weather, we enjoyed the scrumptious night market food in Shilin Night Market, as well as the picturesque scenery in Cihu and the Old Streets of Daxi.

Once again, thanks very much to our beloved tutor, Sir Eric for his hard work. We wouldn't be here without you. Also, thank you to our senior assistants, Mrs Lim and Mr. Lean, and as well as our teacher advisors for taking care of us throughout the trip.

We will come back stronger!

Sports Day 2019

On the 27th of April, Catholic High School Band once again lead the parade session guided by our newly appointed Deputy Drum Major, Darryl Ting Hao, to start the opening ceremony of Sports Day 2019 which was held at our school’s field.

We performed a total of 3 pieces, which were Perro Caliente and Under the Double Eagle for parade performance, and Takarajima, a joint performance with colour guard, presented also at the school field. It was delightful to perform together with the colour guard members this year.

Workshop by Toshio Akiyama

On the 27th of February 2019, a band workshop by Professor Toshio Akiyama was held in Bro. Phillipe Wu Hall. This was an event brought by National Band Directors Association of Malaysia, and it was our honour to be the demo band.

Under the baton of Professor Toshio Akiyama, we experienced different methods to improve the band's sound. It was an insightful experience and we are ever grateful to have such exposures.

Orientation Day 2018

Orientation Day of year 2018 was held on the 28th of December 2018. We performed a popular Chinese pop song called: “小手拉大手”. We hope that this song captures the hearts of our fellow newly enrolled Form 1 students in Catholic High School to join us and explore the musical world together.

Joint Concert 2018

On the 23rd of December 2018, a Christmas themed joint concert was held at the Experimental Theater of University Malaya by National Band Directors Association of Malaysia to welcome the Christmas season with jolly Christmas music.

Our band had the opportunity to perform with Convent Bukit Nanas School Band as the NBDAM Festival Youth Band. The University of Macau Symphonic Band was also invited to perform as the main show of this delightful afternoon concert.

As the NBDAM Festival Youth Band, our song list for the afternoon was: Jingle Bells, Sleigh Ride, Christmas Recollection, Ride, Arirang and Akatonbo and Folklore for Band.

Before the performance, we had a brief interaction with the band members of University of Macau Symphonic Band. Although brisk, it was a chipper time talking to them and sharing our stories and experiences from two different countries.

Overall, it was a good day spent and we hope to be exposed to more events like this in the future.
