AGM 2014

As seasons come and seasons go,  we find that it is time for the AGM of 2014. We carried out the Annual
General Meeting of 2014 on the 26^th of July, but this time it was held in the Dewan Kuliah instead of the Bandroom. But this year, it was not just the committee who stepped down but two of our teacher advisors as well. Mdm. Hardeep who is our Head Teacher Advisor will be transferring to a new school and Ms. Stephanie will become the new teacher in charge of the school library. We wish to thank Mdm. Hardeep and Miss Stephanie for all their years of service and contributions towards the development of our band. These two teachers have been with us for many years so it is indeed sad to see them go, but we wish them all the best in their new jobs. We would also like to say thank you to previous committee, and good luck to the new committee of 2014/2015!

A Doctor in the House

Or in this particular case, our very own bandroom. The doctor in question is Dr. Low Chee Meng who is a local Malaysian but holds a Doctor of Music degree from the University of Alberta Canada. He visited our bandroom on the 30^th of June and conducted a masterclass with the whole band. We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Low and Sir Eric for making this masterclass possible as it is safe to assume that all the band members have learned a lot from this valuable experience.   

Sports Day

Our annual Sports Day has yet again arrived. We led the procession of the 5 sports houses and uniform groups for a parade around the school field while playing Perro Caliente and Tinggi di Angkasa Raya. This year, we did not get to perform our usual static performance but nonetheless we marched on. It was a day of much excitement as the members were able to watch the competitions going on and also meeting the ex-members who came to visit the bandroom.

Band Camp 2014

This year, the SM Sains Selangor Band from KL was invited to join our annual band camp. We held combined instrumental sectionals, section sectionals and concert practices together for the first 3 days of this 4 day camp practicing a few songs for a mini concert for family and friends on the night of the 3^rd day

We also had 2 very special guests from Taiwan who were a part of this camp as well, they were Mr. David Lin who taught the band and Ms. Sophia Teng who taught the Sinfonietta, for the first 3 days of this camp. But there were also tutors for each section who taught during instrumental and section sectional practices so there was a lot to be learned during those 3 days! We would like to thank Sir Eric, Mr. David, Ms. Sophia, Mr. Chan, our teacher advisers and all the tutors for making this camp a success. 

Putrajaya International Book Fair

We were invited to the Putrajaya Convention Centre to perform for 5 days for the Putrajaya International Book Fair organized by MPH. We performed five days in a row on the 19^th, 20^th, 21^st, 22^nd and the 23^rd of March 2014. There was a wide variety of books and stationaries available at discount prices throughout the Convention Centre. We were invited to perform 3 sets each day to draw attention and bring some excitement to the book halls but we had plenty of time to browse around at what the book fair had to offer. We were also given the honour of leading a very important person into the main hall of the book fair to officiate the event and launch his new book, he was our fourth Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad who officiated the event and launched his new book, “Jejak Seorang Pemimpin: Sejarah Lisan Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad”.

Coway Annual Dinner

This time, we went to the Sunway Hotel Ballroom to perform for the Annual Dinner of the Coway household electronics company on the 15th of February. While we waited outside the ballroom to bring in the VIP’s and guests of honour, we got some laughs out of their emcee for the night, the famous Harith Iskander. And then we marched in playing 2 songs from Indiana Jones and Hawaii Five-O with the VIP’s and guests following behind.

KLCC Edu-Fair

On the 18^th of January, a group of our members made their way to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to perform for the opening ceremony of an Edu-Fair organized by The Star newspaper. They were joined by a few girls from our school cheer leading club, Calyx for the opening ceremony. They played a famous theme from the Hawaii Five-O TV series and after that they were able to have a look at the various exhibits and maybe get some ideas on their future.
