Thomas Jack Concert- Fantasy!

Have you ever been to a live concert before? Well, we definitely have! On the 20th of August, we were invited to perform at Thomas Jack's concert- Fantasy, which was held in Stadium Negara, Kuala Lumpur.

It was Thomas Jack's first concert ever since their debut seven years ago. We performed along with them during the last song- “Xiang”, which was also the finale. Other than that, we also have the chance to witness their concert, where they performed each and every song with all their hearts, earning tremendous cheers from the audience. It was amazing how Thomas Jack perfected every song and dance to give the best performance to the audience.

The concert was a real success and we enjoyed every second of it. It was a new experience for us to perform at a live concert and we will continue to cherish every chance we have to perform in the future.

And... the grand finale! Thank you for such a fantastic concert!

Hunger Must Go!

On the 7th of August, we performed at the closing ceremony of the 30 Hour Famine program which took place in the Shah Alam Stadium, Selangor.

Similar to the past years, this year's 30 Hour Famine Program were participated by mostly teenagers from all around Malaysia. We were surely surprised when we knew that we would be performing in front of 12 thousand people! A lot of local artists and performers were invited to perform on the event and it definitely lit up the atmosphere in the stadium. With all the lightnings and stage effects, it looked like an epic concert that gathered the performances of various local artists.

As for our band, we performed a total of three pieces and percussionists performed a drum line just outside the entrance of the stadium. After that, we stayed at the stadium for the countdown. Everyone was in high spirit as the clock ticked towards breakfast time.

It was a very good chance for the band members to gain new experiences by performing in front of a huge audience. We would like to thank the organizer for giving us a chance to participate in this event.

All ready to take a bus to the Shah Alam Stadium!

An awesome drum line performed by our percussionists.

We've had fun performing at the event!

60th Anniversary School Carnival

On the 31th of July, a carnival was held as one of the special events to celebrate Catholic High School's 60th anniversary.
That's right! A fun-filled, exciting and cheery carnival, right in our school! Every CHS-ian had contributed and worked hard to make the carnival a wonderful and unforgettable one, as it was an once in a ten years' event. Every nook and corner of the school were used for games, food stalls, exhibitions and many more. There were even a haunted house and an escape room!

The carnival started at 9.00 am. During carnival, we used three classrooms for an exhibition to introduce our musical instruments. We wanted the visitors to know more about our instruments and of course, our band. We also performed a total of three pieces in the school hall. Brass and percussion section performed two pieces in the morning, while the third piece was performed by the whole band in the afternoon. Between our performances, each section recital their ensemble pieces in the classrooms where everyone was welcomed to stop by and listen. Also, we tried something new this year and performed a flash mob. The performers blended into the crowd and there they performed a total of four ensemble pieces.

The carnival ended at 4.00 pm. It was a fun and memorable experience to be involved in our school's carnival. A very good job to all CHS-ians and a big thank you to the visitors whom have fun with us during the carnival.

Band Fellowship

This year’s camp was a little special as we had an exchange program with Sri KL and SMJK Chung Hwa  right after the music camp. The band fellowship was held at Sri KL from 3rd of June to 5th of June. Sir Eric was invited as the tutor for the three bands. Wow, playing in a band with more than 100 people! We had an enjoyable time and made new friends through music. Here’s a fun fact: we got to sleep over at their classrooms!
On the last day, 5th of June, we had a joint concert. The concert drew full houses. It was a pleasant surprise to see so many ex-seniors and parents showing up at the concert. It was quite an emotional concert as it was the last time Sir Eric conducted the band with the Form 5s.

We would like to extend our deepest appreciation goes to our band tutor, Sir Eric Lee for making all of this possible. Thank you to National Band Directors Association of Malaysia as well as the tutors who gave us lessons. Not to forget Sri KL for hosting us and SMJK Chung Hwa for the exchange too.

Music Camp 2016

Music camp was not only time to have fun but also time to work. The annual band camp was held on the 30th of May to the 1st of June. The three days two nights camp was held at Primaland Resort, Port Dickson. We were fortunate as the band tutor of Raffles Institution, Mr Lim Yean Hwee paid us a visit. His experience and teachings will definitely serve us well in the years to come. Not to mention that his jolly personality and humor have kept the practice interesting and fun. Games were carried out throughout the camp. I can assure you that our members are having the time of their life! Hats off to the Organizing Committee of the camp for all their hard work and making this an unforgettable event!
