CHS bandroom is getting a makeover !

Gotong-Royong was held on the 20th November 2009, from 8.30am to 1.30pm.

The CHS Bandroom, as you know it, is going to be undergoing renovation soon. The refurbishment will be housing a whole new look and impression. Thus, do stay tuned as photos will be up as soon as the renovation has come to an end.

Mainly, we gathered all the furniture and instruments and moved them out of the bandroom, into the Kelab Kebudayaan room as the temporary storage room. Tiring day it was, but our band members proved to be persevering and managed to pull through together.

The School Scouts offered immense help, thus much burden was alleviated. By saving time and also allowing the members time to rest, both lunch and tea time were fully provided by the Organising Committee as well.

Once again, thank you band members, especially the Organising Committee for a job well done!

music camp 2009

Music Camp was held on the 30 of June 2009 right at our school. Headed by Foo Fuei Loo, this camp is deliberated for the preparation of our upcoming concert, East West.

Throughout the 3-days-2-nights camp, a myriad of activities were aligned for both concert performers and new members. On the 2nd day, there was a barbeque party cum gathering. Ex-members ranging from year 2001 to 2008 attended the event.

Members of the band would like express many thanks to the organizing committee for making the camp ever so successful. Thank you, Sir Eric for coaching us and keeping us accompany throughout the camp.

Pictures from the camp will be posted up very soon.

make it your motto

WITH PASSION,
IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING!

If you have the soul and zeal to achieve an aim, make sure you put in extra effort in making it a success. Never take the approach to give up on something when things appear otherwise. And to the juniors, come up to seniors to clear your pool of confusion. Make your mystery history! Set your heart on your goal, and triumph isn’t impossible. Take my word for it!

Hari Gerko

Hari Gerko was the usual stuff every year. Ex-Po was the project for us band members. What’s different this year is that it was lead by the joint effort of Form 3 and Form 2 members. The results were satisfactory and I must say, they did a really good job.

They worked hard day by day to plan on this current event. Ex-Po is so significant because this project will determine the number of new members of a new batch. And suffice to say, the results were pretty pleasing. A total of 179 people signed up – both the names from Orientation Day and Ex-Po were taken into account. This year, we are taking in new Colour Guard members too. The targets were mainly Form 3’s.

During the whole Hari Gerko, there were a total of 9 times of short fuses. This means that the light decoration for our stand had to be shut off. The laptop remains useful as it runs with a battery.

There were ensembles being played around the school before the afternoon session students enter their classes. Woodwind ensemble played a Japanese song; Brass ensemble played Blaze Away, while the Percussion ensemble showed off their amazing strokes and rhythm-sense.

Nonetheless, there were minor problems along the way that an outsider sees. The schedule was lagging and many things had to be delayed because members weren’t moving swift enough. Another part is that things get disorganize when the organizing committee does not brief the members clear enough.

Nevertheless, all’s well end’s well. The project was a great success and the interview session will a reflection of our hard work. Till then!
